Would a new exhaust system make my car faster?

Hello, thank you for checking my question out. I currently own a crown victorian 2001, Not sure if it matters what kind of car I own, and I would like to make it a little faster. My friends ex-girlfriends dad worked at Ford and he was high up, he used to also race cars. I asked him a while back (like 2 years ago), "What would b the way to go to increase my cars performance?" H suggested I get a new exhaust system. Would there in fact be a noticeable upgrade in performance? I would also like the car to sound a bit manlier. Would this do the trick or would I need more (perhaps some exhaust tips)? I wish I knew a lot more about cars I love mine people don't always appreciate the car they own most of the time wishing they had a "better" car (could you also tell me what car you own, and how you like it). Sorry P.S. how could I increase my top speed it currently gives out at 110 (is it possible it has a chip limiting the speed or maybe something else like I said i don't kno much perhaps it the "redline")
