Omg why did my gerbil ate its babies 2 back legs:(!!!!!?

my gerbil ate it babies back legs!!! only 5 babies legs she ate two died:( 3 didnt but she didnt eat anything off the other 3 babies! she had food & water!!!!!!!!! & what am i suppose to do with the babies my sister said she did it cause the cage was to crowded?
